An interview with Sarah Auer
Sarah Auer - A high caliber runner for 29 years talks about running in a quiet New England town
You know how in almost every town and city it is common to see people out jogging for fitness. They are generally out when the weather is warm and typically in the afternoons. These people look like they are slogging out several miles doing what appears like real work. In contrast to those joggers, one occasionally sees people who are running fluidly and at high speed. They make running look easy. One of these talented runners, Sarah Auer, lives in my community. She is a single mother, homeschooling and raising two kids while doing 20 to 30 hours of farm work each week. I asked her if she would mind talking about her running, her history with the sport, her training, racing and goals. Ultimately, what I was most interested in finding out is what motivates her to run. Here is Sarah’s story in her own words.
