An Interview with Kathy Ficken
Kathy Ficken - Wisdom from a veteran teacher
I recently talked to Kathy Ficken, a retiring 1st and 2nd grade teacher at St. Albans City School. She has been serving the St. Albans community through her work at the school for 34 years. Our conversation ranged from how she became involved in teaching to the characteristics and strengths needed to be successful as an elementary school teacher. Kathy is thoughtful about her career and I believe you will enjoy listening to what she has to say.
Here is an interesting note about Kathy. She started college thinking she would become a social worker. In her first year of studying Kathy realized that teaching was a more appealing profession and she shifted over to training for that career. It was only after she became a teacher that Kathy discovered she has the best of both worlds. She gets to be a teacher and plenty of the work she does is some kind of social work.
