An Interview with Jo Ann Chambers
Jo Ann is a people person who brings love and high expectations to her work of substitute teaching and nursing
Jo Ann Chambers is one of those amazing people who always sees the positive in life and in the people she works with on daily basis. Although she is a highly skilled nurse, and could have continued to do that kind of work full-time, she chose nine years ago to become a substitute teacher and nurse at St. Albans City School. Jo Ann truly loves her substitute work. Her constantly changing assignment to classrooms throughout the 800 student school brings her joy, just as her presence brings joy to the lives of the children she teaches on a daily basis. Hear some of the profound wisdom Joanne brings to her work and her feelings about what she does.
Additional Information:
Jo Ann is rooted in the St. Albans Vermont community. She first worked at St. Albans City School in the late 1970s as a paraeducator in 7th and 8th grades. She then decided to become a nurse. When Jo Ann finished her medical education she worked at the local hospital, then in a doctor’s office, and finally in an extended care rehabilitation facility for 18 years. At that point Jo Ann could have retired, but instead she decided to return to St. Albans City School as a kind of “permanent” substitute teacher/nurse. Jo Ann is also a wife, mother and grandmother. Her daughter and granddaughter work at St. Albans City School as well, passing on many of the life lessons they learned from her and bringing their own special gifts to working with children.
